Toss it? No way! A chance to fix what’s broken.
Thanks to Lisa Rosenthal and her team of volunteers the Repair Cafe was a success and it’s going to be offered again for the third time on Saturday, June 10th from 11am – 3pm in the Lane Room at the Burlingame Public Library. If you are available to volunteer that day (even for part of the day), we could use the help.
Free repairs to small electronic items, small appliances, electrical items, jewelry, small sewing repairs, bikes and more. Yea!Mac, a local business, will help with MAC devices and computers from 1 – 3pm. Free e-waste drop-off for all broken or outdated electronic devices is also available.
The first Burlingame Repair Cafe in July 2016 was a huge success! Some 100 local residents brought in household items to be repaired instead of tossing them into the landfill. We logged 125 items total: 57 fixed and 17 partially fixed. We recycled about 57 pounds of items that could not be fixed.
Our Cafe was modeled after the successful Repair Cafe Palo Alto, where volunteers have fixed items including bikes, clothing, cameras, cell phones, computers, lawnmowers, luggage, lamps, jewelry, toasters, CD players and microwaves. While people waited, they enjoyed coffee/pastries and conversation – a chance to build community!
