CEC has been instrumental in ensuring that environmental policies and goals are included in the current draft of Burlingame’s new General Plan (GP), the city’s road map for future development. The city began revising the plan in March 2015 for the first time since 1969.
We are nearing the end of this process, as the draft GP has been made public and we await completion of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and an updated Climate Action Plan (CAP). When these are complete, likely in January 2018, the GP will come up for discussion first by the Planning Commission, then by City Council.
The entire draft General Plan is available for download on the Envision Burlingame website here, along with a very good summary. You will find environmental protection and sustainability issues addressed throughout the GP, particularly in the chapters on Community Character, Mobility, Community Safety (including Sea Level Rise), and Healthy People and Healthy Places.
The environmental policies and goals scattered through the entire GP will be summarized in the Climate Action Plan, which will also delineate specific strategies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and meet the State of California’s GHG reduction goals.
There will be numerous opportunities for public comment as the draft works its way through the Planning Commission and City Council. You can submit comments and sign up for updates here.
